This hands-on workshop will cover the essentials of mushroom cultivation. You will learn about mycelium, substrate, grain spawn, inoculation, fruiting, and harvesting. All necessary materials will be provided. We will be cultivating pink oyster mushrooms, a fast-propagating variety that thrives in the NYC climate and boasts an incredible appearance. Every participant will also have the opportunity to join our online grower community.

Meet the instructor

Spencer Zeke Depas (Zeke) is a guest instructor at Biotech Without Borders and a budding mycologist striving to establish a small mycology business in Brooklyn. He conducts educational workshops on mushroom cultivation. A self-taught developer and serial tech startup founder, Zeke is a passionate believer in self-education and education without large institutions. In the process of teaching himself mycology, he seems to have tumbled down a dragon hole. Zeke is a community builder and enjoys meaningful connections.
