science of bioplastics.
Imagine yourself as an alchemist creating stained glass with only compostable and renewable
raw materials. What are the ingredients, colors, and textures of this “bioglass”? What can we
discover about our physical and material environment with such a recipe?
Delve into the world of bioplastics and biomaterials by creating a unique piece of stained
bioglass ornament! Learn a versatile recipe adaptable to projects such as ornament-making,
jewelry, sculpture, and additional applications. This hands-on workshop will introduce
participants to the history and practice of biodegradable plastics, along with case studies at the
intersection of art, science, and design. The instructor will also share recommendations and
resources for setting up your own kitchen-friendly bioplastics practice.
Please note that the bioglass ornaments will require a few days to dry. Biotech without Borders
will coordinate pick up the following week after the workshop.
