Learn how the Fungal Queendom connects our living world and to propagate mushroom cultures from the wild or market on up-cycled materials.

Lecture & Low-Tech Propagation Workshop by Craig Trester, founder of MYC.NYC:

Fungi are the keystone species that interconnect every facet of life in our world. The lecture component will highlight the supreme influence these ancient and often overlooked organisms have upon our health, society and environment. Alongside this succinct peek into the Fungal Queendom, attendees will learn basics of non-sterile mushroom propagation. The workshop component will involve preparing cardboard for use as an effective low-tech medium to capture fungal species from the wild or market, as the first step for future cultivation. Techniques demonstrated can be replicated at home with up-cycled materials to further expand the mushroom cultures attendees will make and take home during the session.

About the Instructor:

Craig M. Trester is a community scientist and creative biologist who applies biomimicry and permaculture principles through mycology to develop regenerative solutions. By studying Fungi, he believes novel approaches towards alternative agriculture, pharmacology, and bioremediation can be realized. Craig runs MYC.NYC, an applied mycology educational resource that teaches the benefits Fungi provide to our health, environment, and society to academic, research, community, and private audiences.
